The Opium Wars were between the British and the Chinese people. The Chinese wanted the British to stop sending opium into their country because it was killing and ruining the country. The British on the other hand did not want to stop sending opium to the Chinese because they were making money out of selling the drug. The British won the war because they were more advanced than the Chinese. The British had ships with cannons and gunboats. Most of the war was in the sea but the British deafeated the chinese easily.

The White Man's Burden is the idea that the European people were supposed to teach others how to live. They believed that they were the supirior race and their duty was to conquer all. I agree with the analysis they were the supreme race at the time. The white man help, teach, and enlighten the world. It was his burden to take over all the other nations and show them how to rule. They thought it was their duty to force people their ways of civilization and their way to live. Yes i think we are living the "White Mans Burden" today because look wats hapening with the War in Iraq.

The Scramble for Africa took place during the late 1800's and early 1900's when the Europeans began to divide upAfrica. The main European nations involved in the scramble were Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Belgium. These Nations were looking in Africa for their Natural resources. The Europeans were able to conquer the African people so easily because they had more advanced technolgy than the Africans such as guns. The scramble hurt the African people because it Destroyed alliances of tribes and put enemy tribes together this is called Tribalism.

In the film "Mountains of the Moon" European explorers went on a quest to find the source of the Nile River. The Europeans faced many hardships approaching Africa, such as ambushes by African tribes. Also many of the explorers men died from malaria and from exhaustion, many escaped and abandon their fellow group. Some never even made it out of the Sahara Desert. It is strange that the source of the Nile River Lake Victoria also known as the third largest lake in the world is named after a British Queen because the lake isnt located in Europe or even England. Its located in Africa, this is because the European explorers who found it named it after their Queen. The primary technological advantage the Europeans had over Africa was their weaponry such as guns while the Afrian people didnt. Europeans were eventually able to conquer Africa so easily because they eventually went around Africa and invaded through the south with machine guns.

Matthew Perry forced Japan into changing the way they saw the world. He changed the way they saw the world not only economicaly but politicaly too. Matthew Perry also "bullied" Japan into signing the treaty of Kanagawa because the United States needed suplies whenever U.S. ships were out of supplies such as food, water, and coal. The Japanesse were impressed at the ships Matthew Perry brought, because they were steam powered ships and they had cannons. The Japanesse economy changed after Japan became industrialized. Their mass production had changed the way Japanesse worked, Japan had also modernized by having statesman go to learn about government in other countries. The Japanesse took the idea of constitution and made their own. Japan is a Archpelago which means that its a chain of islands. Japan are many islands that form one country.

I show appreciation for what the leaders of this country done for me.
